Water Holding Capacity Nutrient Holding Capacity Criteria for System Selection Built In Place Weight Restrictions and How to Address Them

Water holding capacity is so important to the design and engineering of a "green" roof, no matter how shallow or deep. Above are characteristics which explain our new lightweight medium. It has several advantages: lower bulk density, higher water pore volume and modest saturated bulk density. These are a result of greater organic matter, a strong CEC (cation exchange) and high nutrient values (P, K and Ca) as well as advanced soil carbon capacity. The soil particle distribution curve meets FLL guidelines for intensive media.

What is equally exciting is the fact that this medium is composed of recycled waste stream but without toxic metals. We believe this proprietary soil is the first step towards a new more thoughtful "green" and "brown" approach to ecologically designed roofs.
