After two years of experimentation in cooperation with Tufts University, we put our tray system out for bid to a major project in Boston in 2006. The trays were assembled both by university students at our nursery in Wayland MA and by three-to-eight year olds at the Children's Museum in Boston during a one week construction workshop.
In all, some five thousand square feet (550 square meters) of trays were produced and installed on three roofs. These contained drainage panels, filter fabric and absorption fabric housed in a HDPE tray designed by Licht. Trays were populated with twelve different species of low growing, mat forming plants including four types of Sedum.
This turnkey system was turned over to the Museum and long term care was farmed out to a local plant maintenance company.
This green roof won a national ASLA award to Cambridge landscape architecture firm, MVB in 2007.
