flexible plant selection, from fruits to
herbs to grains to evergreens, based on performance, aesthetics
flexible plant selectio
native plants whose physiology is already adjusted to climate, site and plant community requirements
customized soil media which takes advantage of locally sourced recycled organics
The truth about built in place systems is simply this: 99% of the time they are higher performing, easier
to install, less expensive, just as easy to maintain as modular and tray systems.
The key advantage from a horticultural and geohydro point of view is flexibility. More storm water (or
irrigation water for that matter) can be detained and native plants especially have a better chance at
survival where the soil medium is custom designed to do that. A utilitarian approach might be great for
Sedum but there is a whole world of plants which perform more eco services and built-in-place is the
advocate for that approach.
Botanicals knows about these comparisons since our firm was one of the first to install a tray system in Boston in 2006 after which we studied the results and the cost and then opted for a higher performance, less costly, customizable system not limited by roof geometry, penetrations or mechanical devices.
Allow us to provide details about these comparisons and the advantages of a regionally sourced system.
